I AM THE CURE™
is Komen’s rallying cry, encouraging women to take an active role in their
breast health—to become educated about breast cancer and understand that
being aware is the first step in the process.

Fundraising Tips
for Our Race Efforts
- ONE EMAIL is all it takes. Just ask any of our team leaders. One email sent to everyone you know can generate anywhere from $100 to $1000. I've done it every year. One single email explaining why I am participating in the race and what I hope to achieve. If you have a personal story or a friend or family member who you are doing this in memory/celebration of, mention it. You don't realize how generous people can be until you ask. The worst that can happen is that they delete your email. You're not harassing them if you send them ONE email. Your team leaders can help you craft up the perfect email to send out.
- Select a day at work where everyone can wear jeans as long as they wear a pink ribbon and contribute $5.
- Hold a bake sale, talent show, yard sale.
- Hold a fundraising event. It doesn't have to be as large as Ashley's Booze for Boobs, but anything to show that you have a passion for the cause. Ideas are silent auction, wine tasting night and ask everyone to contribute a bottle of wine for the party and $20 entry fee for the cause, karaoke night and have tips go towards charity.
- Coordinate with a local business to contribute a percentage of their sale towards the race. Whole Foods, Maggie Moo's, Blue Tulip, and many other business will partner with you to donate a portion of their sales to charity.
- Start with a small goal such as raising $100. Once that is reached, you can change your fundraising goal to something higher.
- Our team is currently at 34th place overall for amount of money raised - if we reached our team goal of $7500 that will bump us up to 4th place!!!
- The race offers incentives based on the amount of money you personally
raise.
- If your company participates in a Matching Gift program, contact the Human Resources Department for a special form. Forward the completed form to the Komen National Race office.
Recruiting Tips
for our Race Team
- People are more motivated to workout when they have a buddy - recruit your friend to run or walk the race with you.
- Last year one of our team members won a car - the more people on our team, the greater chances that one of us wins a car this year! Everyone that registers is entered to win a Ford Focus or a free roundtrip flight courtesy of American Airlines.
- Free SWAG on race day!!!
- The sooner you register, the sooner you can email friends and family for pledges.
- If each registered participant recruits one friend, we will almost reach our membership goal of 75. If everyone who told me they will participate (registered and non registered) recruits one friend, we can certainly exceed that!
- Can't make it on Race Day? Don't want to wake up so early? Race for the Cure offers Sleep In for the Cure. It's your way of being a part of the team and the race without having to get out of bed. Missy and Derrick can't attend the race today but they are still letting everyone know that they are a part of Babes for a Cure by registering under Sleep in for the Cure. You'll also get special Sleep In gift and a snooze bib.
- Run or walk for your mother, sister, aunt, grandmother, coworker, friend. In Memory Of and In Celebration Of signs to wear on race day will be provided at the team BBQ and on race day.
- Can't run or walk a whole 3 miles (5k)? There's a one mile fun run!
